Percussion Ensemble

The Percussion Ensemble is a dynamic group focused on exploring the diverse world of percussion literature while fostering both individual and ensemble skill development. Open to students with middle school band experience, this course offers percussionists the opportunity to perform a wide variety of percussion ensemble works, ranging from classical and contemporary compositions to unique, experimental pieces. Students will develop technical proficiency on a range of percussion instruments—including drums, mallet instruments, and auxiliary percussion—while refining their ability to collaborate and perform as a cohesive group.

In addition to its focus on percussion literature, the ensemble plays a critical role in supporting Concert Band by providing the percussion section. This ensemble offers percussionists the chance to experience the challenges and rewards of playing in large ensembles, contributing to the overall sound and energy of the band. During marching band season, the Percussion Ensemble becomes the drum line for the Mustang Marching Band, performing at football games, parades, and pep rallies, and adding rhythm and precision to the band’s field performances.

By participating in the Percussion Ensemble, students will further develop their musical abilities, improve their sight-reading skills, and cultivate a strong sense of teamwork and discipline. This course is ideal for percussionists looking to deepen their musical knowledge and gain a diverse range of performance experiences in both concert and marching settings.
